Name: RookBreed: GSD (x?)DOB/Sex: June 14, 2023/MKnown Health Issues: Cryptorchid. Will be corrected at neuter. Front end assembly is poorly constructed. Good With: Cats! Dogs! Working breed experienced kids will be considered on a case by case basis.NO DOG PARKS Rook is a stunningly handsome young man, who is starting his search for his forever home. He is looking for an experienced handler, that will continue his training, so that he can be the best version of himself he can be. Rook is currently working through reactivity, and severe stranger danger. He has already made great progress, but this is ongoing management and structured socialization. He is loud, happy to be confrontational, and will throw himself around to try and get what he wants. When he arrived he was very indimated and unsure of other dogs. He now enjoys a playgroup with his peers, and is gaining confidence. He's still a bit clumsy, and makes errors, but he's benefiting from a structured pack. However if you think you're going to take him to the dog park, that's a hard no. Rook is learning that places, like the vet, are positive experiences, and that strangers I allow him to interact with, are good people. He doesn't enjoy grooming, but I am now able to bath, brush, and nail trim. We have not explored the power dryer yet. Rook's leash manners are a work in progress. He's a big floppy puppy, who isn't quiet sure of himself. He is learning about leash pressure, and boundaries. He loves adventure, and gains confidence every outting! Rook will be okay with most dogs, with proper intros. I would shy away from delicate dogs, as he does not know his size, and could easily hurt them accidentally. Cats, again with proper training and boundaries should be fine. Kids that will respect boundaries, give him space, and not be intimidated by a VERY loud, boisterous, fearful dog will be considered on a case by case basis. He is not a dog for a very social family, with lots of friends, and kids friends visiting. Rook has been lame on both front legs, for a brief period of time, but only once, and not at the same time. His conformation isn't great, and may be contributing. If the lameness returns, we will xray. If he stays sound, xrays will be done when neutered, in addition to his hip screening. This does not affect his day to day at this time, but he is not a candidate for high impact sports; agility, flyball, things that require jumping or hard stops etc. Rook has his challenges, but he gives back in spades. He is very cuddly, sweet, and bonds hard to his person, as Shepherds do.
