Despite not having an easy start on life, Ben is a happy, playful pup who is friendly and outgoing with everyone around him. He needs someone who is willing to give him the time, patience and understanding that he deserves. Ben loves to hang out with his people and chill but don't be fooled, when it's play time for him it's GO TIME! Ben is medium to high energy and loves going for walks, hikes and runs but his favourite thing to do is search for souvenir sticks and add them to his pile. We call him our Branch Manager of the rescue and the pictures are proof so be ready to be the head curator of his collection! His ideal adopter should have large breed experience, be active and love to take this boy on adventures like hiking, running, camping, etc. where he could expend his energy. Children 16+ due to his size. Ben loves dogs dogs and another dog in the home would be helpful to him. He does have some resource guarding with high value things so if you are vigilant with him it isn't a major issue. He loves people, attention and is always ready for pets. He can however be a nosy, be active and love to hike, run, walk or camp so Ben could be part of all of these wonderful adventures. He is best suited to Children 16+ due to his size and exuberance. Ben loves other dogs and it would be beneficial for him to have one in the home. We believe dog savvy cats would be fine with Ben as well as long as there is proper introduction and the cats have lived with pups in the past.Ben does have some resource guarding with high value things so his adopter should be proactive and vigilant with him. He will improve with guidance and training and, since he is very food motivated, his intelligence will definitely help him train quickly. He has been in board and train for the past month and has developed into a wonderful dog and the facility will continue to help Ben along with anything that arise along the way. He is still a large puppy and this must be taken into consideration when adopting him. Like most puppies, his mouth is his hands and he is curious about the world around him. He will nose around to check everything out and loves to pick up and retrieve things in his mouth. He loves food like most retrievers and if he smells something nice on the counter he will take it if no one is watching. He is very smart and knows many commands and because of his food drive he can be taught so much with love, patience and consistency.
